On Thursday morning, the Southwest Pipe Trades Association (SWPTA) and representatives from its affiliated Local Unions met in Dallas to load trucks with plumbing supplies to address plumbing emergencies across Texas.
The United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing, Pipefitting and Sprinkler Fitting Industry (UA) and the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) teamed up to purchase $350,000 in plumbing materials to allow various contractors to continue helping residents and businesses recover from the historic winter storm earlier this month.
In a recent article, SWPTA President Craig Berendzen discussed the long hours plumbers are working and other obstacles they are facing.
“They just can’t find the supplies, and they’re working 16-hour days,” said Berendzen “These plumbers are working as much as they can stand.”
The purchased supplies will go to SWPTA affiliated Local Unions in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as Houston, San Antonio, Waco and Lubbock.
The Southwest Pipe Trades would like to thank The United Association and UA Local 562 in St. Louis for the support and help getting the supplies to Texas.
The following individuals also deserve recognition and our appreciation: UA General Secretary-Treasurer, Patrick Kellett, UA Local 562 Business Manager, John O’Mara, UA International Rep. Mike O’Mara, UA Business Representative Dick Kellett and UA Local 562 Political Director Tom Malecek.
