Oklahoma state representatives and senators presented Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 344 Business Manager Gary Cartwright with a Bipartisan/Bicameral Citation for his service to the Local and his commitment to the community.
Cartwright spent 24 years on the tools before Business Manager Darren Jones appointed him Local 344 business agent. When Jones became a UA International Representative in 2016, Cartwright was elected Business Manager.
The state legislators surprised Cartwright with the award at Local 344’s monthly union meeting. When he first became business manager, it was Cartwright’s goal to help Local 344 find a voice in Oklahoma’s State Capital.
“I have two outstanding business agents, Larry Brouk and James Clouse,” Cartwright said. “What we have accomplished as a team will help secure licensing and high-profile projects in our jurisdiction.”
The award was a welcomed recognition of those efforts, he added.
“When I was called to the podium to receive the award, it was truly an emotional moment for me,” Cartwright said. “This was a day I will never forget, and I will always be grateful for the opportunities I have had with Local 344.”
The UA International celebrated the recognition on its Facebook page.
It is an honor to see Cartwright’s commitment to Local 344’s membership recognized by the Oklahoma Legislature.
He has made Local 344 strong by ensuring the membership receives competitive wages, quality healthcare and the right to a safe work environment.
The SWPTA appreciates Cartwright’s hard work and dedication to ensure Local 344 succeeds and provides reliable work, benefits and safe working conditions for all his members. He is truly an asset to the community.
