Union HVAC-R Technicians Keep People Comfortable Throughout the Year

HVAC-R technicians are vital to the southwest region. These tradesmen and tradeswomen are responsible for regulating indoor environments by installing, repairing and maintaining heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

HVAC-R technicians work in all settings:

  • Indoors
  • Outdoors
  • Residential
  • Commercial
  • Medical
  • Educational
  • Industrial
  • And more

In addition to making sure indoor environments are regulated properly, HVAC-R Technicians also make the region more energy efficient by replacing old, inefficient systems with new systems. They also maintain systems to ensure they remain efficient, economical and productive.

United Association HVAC-R Training

HVAC-R technicians are in high demand throughout the U.S. and especially in the southwest region.

Men and women who desire to become journeymen HVAC-R technicians are required to go through the five-year United Association (UA) registered apprenticeship program. Aspiring HVAC-R technicians, who already have industry experience, may be able to complete the training program in less time, depending on their skill set and level of industry education and experience.

As apprentices, new HVAC-R technicians have the opportunity to earn while they learn. This means that they earn a livable wage and are afforded great benefits as they receive their education both on-the-job and in the classroom.

The majority of an apprentice’s training occurs on-the-job, where they learn the day-to-day realities of the job from highly skilled and experienced technicians. They then take this work experience and combine it with the classroom instruction they receive at their UA training center to become well-rounded HVAC-R technicians. It is important to note that all UA training center classes are taught by accredited instructors, ensuring that every apprentice eventually becomes a highly skilled, trained and certified journeyman HVAC-R technician.

After completing their apprenticeship program and becoming journeymen, HVAC-R technicians are strongly encouraged to further their education by regularly taking upgrade classes to maintain or expand their certifications and ensure they are up-to-date with the industry’s latest technological advancements.
